Once we woke up this morning, we realized that we were pretty much in the middle of some of the local farms. There were two lads that were watching us once again, and another lady that was walking around collecting firewood for her fire, not 50m from us.
We packed up as quickly as we could, not bothering with our morning ablutions and drove to the border.
The border process was relatively quick and painless, although the officials wanted to check our fridge. There was also a brief moment that the officials on the Namibia side miscalculated and only gave us 10 days access to Namibia instead of our requested 14 days. Nonetheless, everyone was very friendly and we had no issues.
We drove out, once again driving on tar road (I find that I appreciate it SO much more, after all the shaking) and stopped at Eha Lodge where we paid R20 each to have a decent, hot shower. We were a little too late for breakfast, so we made our own at one of the camping spots.
Refreshed, and feeling much more revitalized than the morning, we carried on towards Oshakati. Just outside of town, the police stopped us. Our first reaction was, “Oh no, what now?”
Turns out they were stopping any tourists to warn them to be careful, as there was a lot of theft going on. They warned us not to stop for any reason, unless it was a police vehicle (which can still be a problem in some cases) and to be extremely vigilant. They also gave us the telephone number for the Police Station in case anything happened.
Dad remembered staying in a Guesthouse in Ondangwa and so we headed there to see if we could find the place. We first had a mishap: We turned into what we thought was the Guesthouse and then when we went to inquire about a room for the night we found out it was Hospital Offices. Luckily the receptionist thought it was all very funny and gave us directions to the place we were looking for.
We ended up at the right place and were lucky enough to get some rooms for the night. When we first spoke to the manager, Morné, he was busy with some Shepherds Pies. These looked so good, so we decided to have some for dinner.
During dinner, we spoke to another guest, Mr. Braam, and found out that he knew quite a few of the people that Mom and Dad have met in Namibia.
After dinner, we enjoyed a cup of tea and settled into our beds for the night.
