Mulangeni Lodge in Malawi
The beginning...
My dad started his drilling business in Malawi around 1999. Many kilometres were driven back and forth between South Africa and Malawi, occasionally passing through Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana and Zambia.
In 2002, our little family of five travelled from South Africa to Malawi, and then further into Northern Mozambique to the coastal city of Pemba. This is one of my most memorable holidays, as it was the last one we spent all together. We spent a couple of days out at sea on a catamaran, where my oldest brother celebrated his 18th birthday.
From then we have only had a few holiday trips with all the members of our family, and a couple of new additions as well.
Namibia - 2011
Luderitz - Walvis
My parents spent a couple of weeks in Namibia, of which they did one week in the Namib desert braving the sand dunes with their 4x4 as part of a tour group.
They stayed on after the tour and spent time with one of my dad's friends and did some of their own sightseeing, among other places Epupa Falls and Spitzkoppe.

Angola - 2014
Southern Angola Coast - Luanda
This was my parents' first trip to Angola. They spent around 15 days in the country and ultimately decided to leave sooner due to my dad getting stung by a venomous fish.
They started off by having to go in through a different Botswana border than planned, venturing off onto a dirt road with their caravan.
From Botswana they travelled on to Namibia, where they left the caravan and journeyed into Angola with their vehicle and rooftop.
Mom and dad drove north all along the coast to just south of Luanda where they stayed at Kwanza River Lodge, which is run by a South African. From here they turned east to Calendula Falls, and then south to Pedras Negras and Humpata. From Humpata they travelled down to the coast to Baba to do some serious fishing for a couple of days, before it was interrupted by the accident.
Namibia - 2016
Walvis - Kunune Mouth
Mom and dad started their trip with a three day Echo Trail in the Kgalagadi. From here they travelled all along the border to Richtersveld, where they stayed for two nights at the Richtersveld World Heritage site.
My parents passed through into Namibia, making sure to stop by the Orange River mouth, which forms the southern border of Namibia.
They joined a desert tour which travelled from Swakop to Kunene Mouth (which forms the Northern border of Namibia), along the coast and through the desert.
After that, they stayed in Khaudum National Park before crossing back into Botswana.
