We got going early this morning, not having to pack as much as usual.

The road continued to be mostly dirt, except just before town in Lobito. Here we stayed for some lunch at Zulu Bar. This bar/restaurant is all the way out on the tip of a peninsula, which forms a natural harbor. Mom and Dad mentioned that they stayed at one of the other restaurants slightly further on, because Zulu Bar had been closed at that time.

Something that I forgot to mention yesterday, driving out of Sumbe, you can see many shacks that have been built all up and down on the hills. It looks a little like a setting that you would imagine in the Middle East, instead of out here in Angola.

We headed back the way we came, once again travelling on a dirt road. We turned off towards Binga Bay and travelled around 10kms, threading through rocky peaks. The area is very arid and rocky with small scrubs of bush and little to no trees. There are also many hills, after the terrain was very flat for a long stretch of road.

We stopped at a boom, where a local opened for us. It seems that there are the beginnings of a lodge on the escarpment; there are a couple of tents and what looks like shipping containers that have been turned into rooms. We drove past that and down the escarpment toward the bay. At the bottom, there is a very old building that is used by the locals. There is a net that is set up close to the water that they use to dry fish.

We drove past all of this and toward the far end of the bay. Here, we found a perfect spot closed to the beach and in the shadow of some rock formations.

Dad almost immediately headed down to the water to fish (after completing his unpacking duties of course) and Mom and I set up the rest of the camp. At least this has not been too hard to do – Mom and Dad’s tent go up with the push of a button and my tent unfolds and pops up in seconds.

We were still full from lunch, so we just had some tea and biscuits for dinner. There were very few stars because of the moon, but this was beautiful in itself. You could still see everything in the light of the moon. After our tea, we all climbed into our tents for the night.
